![]() ![]() The pandemic pushed many of us to take a step back from our lives and reflect. ![]() I recognize the privilege of being invited into a client’s life and would be delighted to accompany you on a meaningful journey to wellness. I believe that the ultimate goal of therapy is to empower you to work toward changes that will be beneficial to your personal well-being and happiness as well as your relationships with your partner, family, and friends. As the therapist, I am knowledgeable on various ways to help you find relief and comfort. As the client, you are the expert on yourself and your experiences. Primarily following a humanistic orientation, while also incorporating cognitive-behavioral techniques, I believe that therapy is a collaborative relationship to which both parties (the client and therapist) bring knowledge. Seeking out that help from a professional can feel uncomfortable part of my role as a therapist is to create a safe, welcoming, supportive space that allows you – the client – to work toward understanding the challenges you experience and finding the path to wellness. Needing support and guidance from others is part of being human. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking and baking, reading, hiking, running, cycling, and camping. In addition to my clinical work, I am on faculty at the Community College of Baltimore County, teaching students in the Human Services Counseling Program. I earned Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Delaware, a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University, and a Doctorate in Adult Education from Penn State University. My specialties include working with clients with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and navigating life transitions. I have had the opportunity to work with women, men, adolescents, children, and families representing a variety of backgrounds, and I especially enjoy working with adolescents, college students, and young adults. We're a team of trauma-informed clinical mental health professionals trained in the latest science and data and focused on meeting the growing needs of Huntsville.I have worked in the behavioral health field since 2003 and have practiced independently since 2007. Songbird Counseling was created in 2022 by Aaron Shaffer, MA, LPC, CSAT when he noticed Huntsville’s growing demand for research-backed therapeutic care in a rapidly expanding city. It was out of this passion for providing high-quality care and life-changing results that Songbird Counseling was formed.
